Lucky were the longtime owners of a Brooklyn Heights co-op to find the adjacent unit for sale. Luckier still, perhaps, were the couple to meet Christine Stucker and James Veal, cofounders of Stewart-Schäfer

Full Apartment Renovation + Adjacent Unit Integration This comprehensive project involved a full refurbishment of the original apartment alongside a complete gut renovation of the newly acquired adjacent unit. Together, the spaces were transformed into a cohesive, warm, and luxurious home tailored to modern living. In the original apartment, we preserved the overall layout but introduced significant upgrades to enhance functionality and flow. The existing ceiling a patchwork of soffits and bulkheads, remnants of aging infrastructure was carefully dropped just enough to accommodate a refined, cohesive lighting plan while retaining as much height as possible. The result is a more unified spatial experience that maintains a sense of airiness and volume. At the core of the renovation is a reimagined kitchen, now the heart of the home. More than just a functional space, it sets the tone for the entire residence, establishing the material palette and architectural language that carries throughout. Its central location reinforces the visual and physical connection between rooms, offering a first impression rooted in warmth, craftsmanship, and quiet luxury. Throughout the apartment, we installed new flooring, fully renovated the office and children's bedrooms, and introduced custom millwork and tactile, durable finishes to support both beauty and practicality. The adjacent unit was entirely gutted and rebuilt to create a serene primary suite. This includes a luxurious bathroom, bespoke walk-in closets flanking the bed, and a new hallway that seamlessly connects the two apartments.Despite unforeseen structural challenges that required emergency shoring and reinforcement, the project moved forward with care and precision. These interventions not only ensured safety and code compliance but also enhanced the integrity and longevity of the build. From design through furnishing, every element of this renovation was approached with thoughtfulness and rigor. The result is a holistic, highly livable home defined by clarity, connection, and a quiet sense of elegance.
